Design Data in the Vault

Since version 2024, Autodesk Vault has the ability to automatically synchronize the Templates and Design Data folder. This is a really nice feature that ensures that all Inventor users work with the same standard. A new user is up and running very quickly with this feature.

Publish Tool settings

The Publish Tool settings are divided into personal settings and common settings. The common settings, such as the layers for DXF export, have been stored in the Design Data folder since the Publish Tool existed. More and more users of Autodesk Vault have placed the Design Data folder in the Vault.
When confirming a change in the Publish Tool, the settings are automatically checked out and in. If you do not have administrator rights, you will get the message as shown here..
Because it is not desirable for everyone to be able to change these settings, we have built in this security so that only users with admin rights can do this.

Create new role in Vault (basic and pro)


We will now add a new role that will allow a designated user to adjust the Publish Tool settings.

  • Open Vault Client and log in as administrator.
  • Go to ‘Global Settings’.
  • Click on ‘Manage Roles’
  • Create a new role ‘Matprop Administrator’
  • Add ‘Manage site configurations’ to the permissions.
  • Click ‘OK’

Create a new group

  • Go to ‘Manage Access’
  • Create a new group
  • Add the ‘Matprop Administrator’ role to the newly created group.
  • Add the designated user(s) to the newly created group.
  • Click ‘Close’
